Community: what to bring

To answer the questions of some friends, I'm sharing to you the things I bring to the community :)

Community Medicine is a six-weeks rotation where we immerse in different barangays in San Juan, Batangas. We have foster families and again, I'm lucky with mine. :) It is very important to take into consideration the area where you will be living. If you live far from the city proper then you should always stock on food and other supplies.

weekender bags
Louis Vuitton, Nine West, Ralph Lauren

we were not provided with pillows so better bring one on your first week
head pillow, my 2 small pillows, cashmere blanket

water bottle and medical stuff for the clinics
sphygmomanometer, stetchoscope, measuring tape, Blue Book, MIMS, IMCI sheets, diagnostic set: otoscope and ophthalmoscope, thermometer, alcohol, self-inking name stamp

I placed all my toiletries in one basket so it will be easier for me when taking a shower
Dove shampoo, Human Nature conditioner, Olay body wash and cream, Clarins shower gel, Human Nature feminine wash, Pond's facial wash, Celeteque toner, Dermcare toner, Muji moisturizing milk, Belo deodorant, Bath&Body Works lotion, Colgate toothpaste and toothbrush, Green Cross alcohol, Vitresse hair serum
AND cotton buds, cotton balls, tissue roll, feminine pads

you'll never know when it will rain or if gets muddy so bring rainboots
for extra clothes, bring a bag which you can leave in your foster home
Pluey rainboots and a sack-bag from Europe

don't forget your laptop, cellphones, camera, iPod/iPad, flash drive
on my gadgets bag
Samsung Galaxy and Samsung GU 800 cellphone chargers, Sea Gate external hard drive (for movies/series), Nikon camera charger, Hed Kandi ear phones, iTouch cord, book light, Globe Tattoo broadband stick, universal adaptor, extension cord

Eat: breakfast (cereals, noodles, oatmeal, bread), canned goods, rice, snacks, milk, fruits, etc - very dependent whether your foster family will cook food for you or not :)
Wear: shirts/scrubs and jeans, shorts for home, jacket, undies, sleepwear, flipflops, shoes,
Others: umbrella, mosquito repellant, cigs, notebook and pens, coins for fare, makeup

There there there!
Always bring something to do like a book to read or films to watch because at night, it can get boring. Remember curfew is 6pm :) Take this opportunity to rest before Ob rotation :)
Enjoy the community life! :)
Hope this helps! x
